Don't Sleep on Devotional Catharsis - Red Things on Tuesday

Get some of that devotional catharsis

Don’t sleep on devotional catharsis. Personally, It’s my favorite kind. So much of the healing world, the psychedelic world is focused on releasing trauma. That’s all fine and good, but that’s not all there is.

Sometimes in a yoga class, the breathing is just right, and the movement is just right, and trevor hall sings just the right line, and I’m overwhelmed by the beauty of creation, and then infinite love that’s surrounding and moving through me. The tears flow, there’s no holding them back. I’d worry that the teacher is going to worry about me, but she’s a yoga teacher, she gets it.

It happened this morning, in fact. Just happy to be alive. Just joy.

I’m not sure if this would be available to me if it weren’t for my psychedelic explorations. My first experience of my chest bursting open in ecstasy was definitely under the influence. And it opened the door to many others. It made that state, that space, available to me.

It’s not something I can find or conjure on purpose, of course, love follows its own design. It just shows up when it wants to. It’s accidental. But you know the saying: practice makes us accident-prone.

There is an old Zen poem where a monk who is walking on a path trips on a rock and falls into the empty sky. I think it’s kind of like that.

So, to take a page from Hunter S. Thomspon, "I'd never suggest psychedelics, meditation, and devotional practice to anyone, but they've always worked for me."

I’m so exhausted by my own problems. I don’t want to talk about them. Not because I want to avoid them, but because who has the energy? I’d rather find the parts of myself that are enamored with the perfection of all to be perfectly honest.

This isn’t bypass, this is just intention. If I have a choice, I’d just rather set the controls to the heart of the sun, as Pink Floyd suggests. I'd like my destination to be the brightest star (Stevie Wonder). But that doesn’t mean I’m never going to have to deal with my shit. It’s going to come up, no way around it, I’m just not going to roll around in it on purpose if I don’t have to. Don’t go looking for trouble, that’s my motto.

If you’ve got to bawl your eyes out, I hope it’s due to an overflowing of devotion.

And, if you want to practice in the hopes of becoming accident prone, and you want to practice with me, well, thats' what my class "Meditation for the Journey" is for.

It’s a six-week class covering mindful and imaginable practices to support preparation, integration, and the journey itself.

This 6-Week Intensive includes online training, as well as twice-weekly meditations, integration circles, a robust online community with exclusive resources, and a new moon tea ceremony. All in service of your growth, evolution, and development. (and all classes are recorded!)

We’re all aware that the psychedelic field is blossoming in a multitude of ways. There are opportunities for researchers, activists, and healers. Psychedelic healing arts include therapists, nurses, coaches, sound healers, herbalists, doctors, and energy workers. Countless, sincere individuals seek healing, transformation, and growth, which means the opportunities for passionate and skilled healers are unlimited.

Meditation for the Journey is your Psychedelic Awakening Toolkit. It provides a one-of-a-kind curriculum for psychedelic healers that offers a multifaceted approach to the development of self and others. Participants will learn new techniques every week that will directly and positively impact their ability to work with clients both in and out of the medicine space.

If it’s valuable for you to show up for your clients from a grounded, centered place and step into a solid place of leadership in the psychedelic space, Meditation for the Journey will support you as you move into an embodied place of presence and profound service.

it's only $450 through the end of the week (or so), so you can save $150 off the regular price of $600.

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. If you think you're enlightened, go spend a week with your family. This is a famous old Ram Dass quote. He took all that acid, hung out with gurus and saints, and did as much spiritual practice as anyone could. And Thanksgiving still triggered him. Why should we be different? Who are we that this should be easy? I don't always know how to relate to my folks, we've certainly had our ups and downs. As I write this from their kitchen...

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. What's going on? What should I do? Integrating the two confusions. In my class "Meditation for the Journey," we dip our toes into the water of Buddhist Psychology and explore how we're tormented both inside our psychedelic experiences and out, by the three poisons: Greed, attachment, clinging, lust (Raga) Aversion, hatred, avoidance, ill-will, revulsion (Dvesha) Confusion, ignorance, misunderstanding, delusion (Moha) When discussing...

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. Getting the trauma out of your tissues isn't enough. You've also got to get the Love in. I walked into yoga this morning with all kinds of feelings. Mad at the world, scared about my fate, you know, usual stuff. And it was stuff I felt like I had to figure out. Stuff I had to solve. It took me about 15 minutes of sweating and breathing to realize the world wasn't the problem. It was me. My emotional issues (which the Buddhists so...
