I Thought I Already Dealt With That! Psychedelics and the Eternal IssueWe asked 100 psychonauts what surprised them on a recent journey. Survey Says! In the top five has got to be "I thought I dealt with that already." We've got issues, you and I. All of us. And while we often think we've 'done the work' or 'cleared it', that's rarely the case. Not 100% anyway. We've got issues that linger. It reminds me of the old Eddie Murphy punchline, "You keep that for life, like luggage." Boy, I wish luggage still lasted a lifetime, but I digress. I think the 'peeling the onion' metaphor is inaccurate. It makes folks thing that processing their issues is one and done. It's not. We're more like pomegranates. There are seeds of suffering everywhere. We pick them out as best we can, but they're everywhere. The best we can hope for is to become calmer, more skillful, and more aware in our noticing and picking. But we're in for trouble when we think we're healed all of a sudden. When we think the number of journeys and the fancy beads means we're complete. That wide brimmed hat is not a graduation cap. Hafiz said it best “It is always a danger When they begin As if the ten thousand idiots Have all packed their bags ~Hafiz Hillarious. I hope you enjoy your luggage, because as heavy as mine is, I'm sure not going to trade it for yours! Of course I'll walk with you though. We can carry our bags together, as we walk the golden road. We meet every Thursday at noon eastern, and there are monthly masterclasses as well. There is also a large archive (over 200 hours) of psychedelic education and past talks. The wonderful people who show up share not only their journeys, but the journeys of those they steward. It's become a place of learning, support, accountability, and peer review. Folks are learning some things from me, but they are also learning from each other. We all face unique challenges as we work in this space, and it's great to have a place where we can bring them for non-judgmental feedback and reflection. You're invited. Breathwork and Emotional Clearing for Psychedelic Integration Training WeekendNovember 6-8, I'll be co-leading a weekend in San Francisco with one of my dear friends, Alyce Bacine. We became friends at the local yoga studio in 2001, and have both been doing our things ever since. We'll be training practioners how to show up for and support the clearing of big emotions in preparation, journey, and integration. Learn practice to keep you grounded when things get weird. There will be a virtual aspect, and 3 days of in person training. This will be awesome. Stay tuned, more details to come. Remember, You're Going to Die We all have beliefs and worldviews. They shape how we see the world. They color our perspectives. We're not always conscious of them. We swim through our ideas like a fish in water. We breathe them like air, drink them like water, and don't notice them until they are challenged. Many of the ideas wiggled their way into our minds while we weren't paying attention. Culture is not your friend. This is half the fun of psychedelics. They reveal to us how the mind's...
The Tyranny of Psychedelic Setting Longtime Phish lighting designer Chris Kuroda behind the boards at Sphere Las Vegas in April.Rene Huemer - GQ Magazine I was reading an article today about the development of new concert light-show technology. Chris Kuroda, the guy pictured above, and his team designed entirely new software for Phish's recent run at the Sphere. Usually, they used a live lighting rig. Wanting to virtually simulate both the effects and the live playability of real lights for...
Sincerity vs Seriousness in the Ceremonial Space I'm a sincere person, but I don't know that I'm a serious person. I think there is a difference. I honor the processes people go through to heal, I honor the lineages of practitioners who have worked tirelessly to support others and preserve teachings, I deeply appreciate the sacredness of all life and the interconnectedness of us all. There are so many things that make my heart humble. I was also blessed wth a strong sense of humor, a gift...
