Scarcity and Risk in Your Psychedelic ExperiencesSometimes I'm hesitant to use the word scarcity because it shows up so often in the 'manifestation coaching' space. You know, folks who tell you that your business isn't working because of your scarcity mindset. That might be part of it, but I don't think it's ever the whole issue. But what I mean when I talk about scarcity in the psychedelic space is that psychedelics are rare and hard to come by. For most folks anyway. If you aren't entrenched in a community of practitioners, an eighth of mushrooms might seem to shine like the pulp fiction briefcase. (Yes that's a dated reference, and if you're too young to have seen it, now is the time.) So, with the rarity and the preciousness of psychedelics, people can sometimes take risks they wouldn't ordinarily. They might think, well, what if I never have this chance again? They might decide to buy them from people they don't trust, or take them with people they don't like. They might be reckless with set and setting, because, well, now is the time. I've even gotten into debates online with people who promoted the old cosmic adage, "Psychedelics will appear to you at the right time." C'mon people don't be naive. They're mushrooms, not kittens. The idea that entheogens are scarce is not unreasonable. The idea that there will never be another chance is increasingly unreasonable. There are retreats aplenty. There are tons of free PDFs explaining how to pick the right one for you. In fact, I hear this refreain much less often than I used to. Just a few years ago, it came up all the time. Today, less so, but it's still an issue for some, and I think a reminder every once in a while isn't a bad idea. So consider yourself reminded. Keep this in your back pocket in case a friend of yours needs reminding. A better chance will come along. You deserve to wait. The Golden Road has evolved into a wonderful group of practitioners. We meet every Thursday at noon eastern. There is also a large archive (over 200 hours) of psychedelic education and past talks. The wonderful people who show up share not only their journeys, but the journeys of those they steward. It's become a place of learning, support, accountability, and peer review. Folks are learning some things from me, but they are also learning from each other. We all face unique challenges as we work in this space, and it's great to have a place where we can bring them for non-judgmental feedback and reflection. You're invited. Integration Circle Burnout - a New Time for Meetups I've been leading free integration circles regularly for over 8 years. First monthly in person in Marin, then weekly online when the pandemic hit. It's rewarding. I've made lasting friendships. People in the circles have made lasting friendships. Folks have let me know that they've really helped and supported them. They've been special. But a year or so ago, I got a little burned out on them. I guess it happens sometimes. I've got to be...
Is Your Energy Being Harvested at the Festival? I've seen posts on social media lately where people are claiming that festivals are nefarious places designed to harvest your vital energy. Spooky. Woogity Boogity. I don't know what kind of festivals you've been going to. I'm doubtful. I was at a couple of Phish concerts at Madison Square Garden over the weekend. 20,000+ people. Two nights. Lights, Sound, Old Friends, the works. And I started thinking to myself, "Is my energy being harvested,...
Divine Mercy and the World Cup I'm not a biblical scholar, and I don't usually watch the World Cup. But there I was, watching Spain and Argentina play ball, while I was regaled with tales of grace and love and mercy. Something called "The 13 Attributes of Mercy" to be precise. This is pretty much the way I want to watch sports. Plenty of snacks, spiritual dialogue, and a mesmerizing little ball for my eyes to follow around. I'm not going to bore you with a long lecture on concepts I just...
