Sacred Knowledge and Psychedelic Knowledge - It's all the sameYou know the story of the boiling frog. It's usually used as a metaphor for social/political oppression, or some other situation that slowly becomes unbearable over time. We always like to thing of the boiler as some faceless force or inhuman system. We don't usually think about how we boil our own frog. It's a hard pill to swallow, seeing how we're often the architect of our own suffering. Especially when it comes to our own integration, or lack of it. We all have a comfortable temperature for our lives. We all have a quality of life that makes sense for us. Funny thing is, is that on occasion our lives might get a little 'too good' and we might even subtly sabotage ourselves. After an experience, we often find ourselves inspired to improve our lives. We go to yoga, meditation, ritual. And sure enough, it works. Our quality of life slowly starts to improve. Our mind starts to clear, we feel more connected, more creative. We begin to believe we can be the person we always hoped we could be. But then, for some reason... we stop. Life gets in the way, or stuff comes up we'd rather ignore, or whatever. But we stop. And then, slowly, almost imperceptibly, our quality of life starts to degrade again. And before we know it, things are a mess again. We're disconnected, confused; we're all over the place. We ask ourselves, "What happened?" We happened. We boiled our own frog, slowly, slowly. So I don't know who needs to hear this, but this is your sign to get back to your practice. To take care of your frog. Sacred Music, Psychedelic Music❤️ Training Weekend in San FranciscoNovember 6th to 8th in the Mission Evoke the innate wisdom of your client with curiosity and presence. Sacred Knowledge and Psychedelic Knowledge - It's all the same In the summer of 2000, I spent a week at Casa De Guru Ram Das, the spiritual center of Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga empire in Espanola, New Mexico. I did seva (service). I swept the floor of the practice space, learned how to peel ginger for chai, and chopped potatoes. One morning the guitar guy didn't show, and I was recruited to march around the campground at 4 am, clumsily strumming "May the Long Time Sunshine Upon You" as a...
Listen to the weird psychedelic voices I remember when you could go to a psychedelic conference and see talks with names like "Xenolinguistics, Psychedelics, and the Evolution of Consciousness." Thanks, Diana Slattery, you're the best! Xenolinguistics is, of course, the study of alien languages, much like the kind you see in your psychedelic journeys or in an Allyson Grey Painting. The talk was weird, and it only made partial sense to my puny rational mind, but it was psychedelic. It was...
Bad Trips, Catharsis, and Breathwork I've got to be honest. I don't think that catharsis is the pinnacle of the psychedelic journey. People seem very attached to their emotional releases; they love rolling around on the floor wailing. I think this has diminishing returns. I think it's part of the zeitgeist. People are told that they've been repressing their emotions for too long (which is probably true), and that the path to healing lies in feeling their emotions (which is partly true). What...
