The point of psychedelics is not to just do psychedelics. The point of psychedelics is not to just do psychedelics. We know that if we do too many, too often, (or too much too fast) we might end up getting a little weird or a little burnt out. We might end up thinking too many weird thoughts, coming up with strange ideas, like perhaps our entire friend group is comprised of reincarnated healers, shamans, heroes, and warriors of light who chose to come back to earth to fight for goodness and the future of the human race. If only! (wink wink, nudge nudge) We go in for wisdom, for connection to something deeper, part of ourselves or perhaps something grander. Life, the universe, and everything. Even recreational folks understand that the mind expansion and deeper insight is half the fun. They know they're better for the experience. This is the point. We're looking to be better versions of ourselves. Or if not better, we're looking to be more authentically ourselves. We're ready to drop the act. Whether we call it healing, growth, or spiritual connection, it's what comes after the journey that counts. What matters is how we go back to the village, contribute to society, and raise our babies. How we care for the earth, and its creatures. (Little creatures of love!) We want to live the wisdom of our journeys. This is the gift of psychedelics for us, and for our culture. It has never been easier to discuss subtleties and nuanced ideas than it is today. Ideas about holistic healing, sustainability, and conscious communication have never made more sense to the general Western population. We have a greater chance to live with purpose than ever before. We have unheard of access to education. Study Buddhism with Thich Nhat Hanh or finance at Cambridge, free. However you've been inspired by your psychedelic journeys, you can make moves on it, easier and with more support from your community than any time in recorded history. This is integration. Making inspired moves. Tending to all aspects of ourselves so we can show up for each other at the highest level. We take care of the body, nourishing it, exercising it, and giving it time to relax. We take care of the mind, learning to observe how it works and not being distracted by its endless machinations and seductions. With discipline, we give it high-quality material to feed on and limit the shoveling of overstimulation or pessimism. We take care of our emotional life, finding ways to slow down long enough to feel our feelings. We refrain from the blame game, recognizing that it's simply a way to offload pain that we need to feel. We take care of our relationships. We stay humble, realizing that we're always at least a little bit wrong. Remembering that we don't have all the information, and that others' perspectives are valuable, too. We care for our souls, and we honor the sacred. We honor our own drives, intuition, and personal missions. We trust ourselves and realize that the ache in our heart is holy. We don't lose heart, even when it's dark. Maybe You Had Too Much Too Fast?Little Creatures of LoveTraining Info SessionIf you’ve been feeling the pull to support others in psychedelic work, but want to do it in a way that’s grounded, thoughtful, and actually responsible, this is a good place to start. I’m hosting a live info session for the Psychedelic Integration Coach Training. I’ll discuss how we approach integration as a real discipline rooted in mindfulness, somatics, and spiritual practice, not just intuition or good intentions. We’ll talk about what makes someone effective in this role, how the training is structured, who it’s for, and what people actually do with it in their lives and work. There will be time for questions. It’s not a pitch-heavy call. Just a chance to get a clear feel for the training and see if it’s aligned for you. If this is something you’ve been circling, it's worth a conversation. We meet every Thursday at noon eastern, and there are monthly masterclasses as well. There is also a large archive (over 200 hours) of psychedelic education and past talks. The wonderful people who show up share not only their journeys, but the journeys of those they steward. It's become a place of learning, support, accountability, and peer review. Folks are learning some things from me, but they are also learning from each other. We all face unique challenges as we work in this space, and it's great to have a place where we can bring them for non-judgmental feedback and reflection. You're invited. But in a world where mysterious incidents continue to happen, this denial can cut us off from realities potentially vital for our health and well-being. In this piece, Dr. Tafur will discuss how our relationship to the mystery is not limited to psychedelic experiences or sacred plant medicine ceremonies — it can also arise from near-death experiences, inspirational healings, meditation, prayer, and even dreams. Dr. Tafur was ejected from a car during his senior year in high school and had what he described as a near-death experience. Decades later, working at the intersection of modern medicine and spiritual healing, he still sees that experience as deeply spiritual. Exploring the unseen and unexplained, he’s observed that there is a growing search for a “universal spirituality," he is interested in what role science and modern medicine will play in this evolving search. At their best, psychedelics can illuminate both the personal shadow and the collective shadow, revealing how our individual wounds are intertwined with larger cultural, ancestral, and ecological crises. They offer a unique bridge between neuroscience and spirituality, between therapeutic healing and visionary awakening, helping us reconnect with the larger intelligence of life while also sharpening presence, purpose, and performance. The core of Jahan's dissertation and book, “The Psilocybin Connection”, focus on the idea first proposed by Terence and Dennis McKenna that the symbiotic relationship between humans and psilocybin mushrooms catapulted human evolution. We we explore how this evolution - spiritually, psychologically, emotionally, and physiologically - is still continuing today. When approached with reverence, preparation, and integration, these medicines can become allies in human development - supporting not only personal growth and emotional healing, but the evolution of consciousness itself in service of a more compassionate, awakened, and interconnected world. Native of Eternity - Rest In Peace, Lorin Roche Lorin Roche changed my life, and on April 18th, he died. I'm very sad about it. I thought I'd get a chance to speak to him again. We chatted a little a few months ago, and I sent him a picture of my kids. I guess that's it. I cried throughout yoga class this morning. I wonder what the teacher thought. I found his work in 2008, when I was starting to dive into the Vijnana Bhairava Tantras, a meditation encyclopedia. While most of the translations...
Psychedelic Camp Shirts 12-step programs have this interesting concept called “attraction rather than promotion." The idea is that they don’t try to proselytize or sell people on the idea of sobriety. That generally just turns people off. It’s better to just walk around and be a better version of yourself than you were when you were drunk all the time. People notice that, and if they want help, they come to you. It also seems like a pretty good way of going about things for those among us who...
Are we fungi, or are we algae? Lichen. It's fascinating. Until just the other day, I thought it was a single organism. It came up in a conversation with a client, who explained that it's a symbiotic relationship between fungi and algae. Algae is capable of photosynthesis, which provides energy, nourishing the lichen. The fungus offers structure, it's the reason the lichen is able to live on rocks and trees. Without the contributions of both, lichen wouldn't be able to thrive in such a wide...
