We see the world as we are - Viewing the world through a psychedelic lens

They say that if a thief meets a holy man, all they see are pockets.

We're all so laden with unconscious bias that it's impossible to see things clearly.

We see it all over the news these days. Everyone has commentary about everything that happens. Everyone has their own pet narratives about why the election played out the way it did. Everyone needs to make a post about the deeper meanings behind boxing matches. I learn more about the author than I do about what's actually going on in the world. We're all so deeply entrenched in our beliefs.

Beliefs all seem to be equally arbitrary and insufficient. I don't mind people having their beliefs as long as they are make them happy. I think it was Robert Anton Wilson who suggested (paraphrased, "If your thoughts are making your world bigger, sexier, more fun, more interesting, and exciting, then you are what we call smart! If your thoughts are making your world smaller, duller, and more threatening, well, you may have some work to do."

Believe the good stuff, that's what I think!

This is the fun thing about tools like meditation, psychedelics, and even integration coaching. You get to romp around your own mind, tweaking little bits of thoughts to create a better world for yourself. You literally make yourself smarter.

Getting Better Without Diminishing who you are right now.

The thing about self-improvement is that sometimes we view it through the lens of "There's something wrong with me."

A lot of the time, those of us who want to get better have a deeply held belief that there is something wrong with us right now. And when this is the case, there is no better that will ever be good enough. Not until we allow ourselves to be good enough right now.

I got an amazing lesson from my dad today. My dad is an accidental zen master.

I spoke to him today, he told me he was tired of watching the news. I suggested he pull up some talks from "The Minnesota Men's Conference" YouTube channel. "What's that?" he asked. Just a bunch of guys sitting around talking about being better men, I replied.

"How? Are they golf instructors?"

I offered some new age psychobabble to try to sell him on listening to jungians and poets.

"Sounds like bullshit."

"ummm...."

"Is there a Minnesota Cat Conference? I think the cat needs to become a better cat. I'm not sure she's enough of a cat yet."

"Thanks, Dad."

I think I'm still going to keep enjoying the talks, but his point is well-taken. We can let go of arbitrary metrics of growth; discipline, patience, humility, or golf, and just relax and see ourselves as enough of a cat already.

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. The Felt Sense of Safety, Relational Safety I've just been thinking about the different ways that we contemplate and experience safety lately. Psychedelic use is risky business, and the presence of a guide, a shaman, or a community container doesn't immediately erase that risk. It can perhaps mitigate some of them, but it also introduces more levels of complexity that we might not immediately intuit. Good integration coaching helps us...

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. Psychedelic Dharma It's better to do your dharma imperfectly than to do someone else's dharma perfectly. - Krishna says that in the Bhagavad Gita. (in this case, Dharma loosely translates to mean one's life path, one's way.) We each have a unique makeup. We have individual constitutions, talents, and interests that guide us through life, and that's ok. We needn't try to fit in where we don't. Just because someone we know is dedicated to...

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. Sometimes I need to unplug my integration. Sometimes, my experiences have been ultra wild, and I’m left scratching my head or shaking in my boots. When that happens, it’s my instinct to overcomplicate things and get all up in my head about it. But that doesn’t help. I need to get out of my head, not go deeper into the confusion. You can’t solve a problem with the same consciousness that created it.These situations ask for simplicity....
