Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. End of Summer Psychedelic ReadingAs the seasons change, and the kids get ready to go back to school, it's getting to be time to start cozying up with books. I don't want to brag (I want to brag), but I've got some pretty brilliant friends who have written some pretty great-looking books that have just come out. I'm looking forward to digging into their books, and it's also my pleasure to share them with you as well. In all transparency, most of these are affiliate links, so if you purchase one, we'll get about 25 cents, which will go into paying for our email software. First, I'm thrilled to be able to share a book written by one of our own, Alisa Stone. Alisa leads our weekly women's circle with Robin. Alisa has written "Turn On, Tune In, and Heal," and it features some of her work with Tam. This book is here to help. It’s written for those who don’t yet understand—your parents, friends, or partner—and aims to break down the fear, stigma, and misconceptions surrounding psychedelic therapy. If you want your loved ones to support you, start by giving them this. Check it out here. Next, I'm honored to be featured in Julian Vayne's new book, "Trip Sitting." Julian and I talk a lot, and he teaches in the Tam Coaching Training Program. He's really had a profound impact on me, and what we offer here at Tam. So, I'm humbled because he let me know that one of my practices was included in his new book. Which one? You'll have to order it here to find out! How about a few books on psychedelic music? Steven Gelberg has been collecting and collating psychedelic music for playlists as long as anyone. His Spotify account has everything you need to craft a nice, long playlist. His new book is titled "Tuning In: Experiencing Music in Psychedelic States" My pal Matt Xavier takes recorded music curation one step further and offers a unique, high-touch experience. He is known to set up his DJ equipment for his folks and mixes music in real time. His book is called "The Psychedelic DJ: A Practical Guide to Therapeutic Music Curation and Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy." My pal Amanita Dreamer just released a book of short contemplations, "Daily Readings for Integration: For Your Psychedelic Journey." It's a wonderful collection of high-minded thoughts, and perfect for those of us who do well with poetic snippets of condensed goodness. Finally, there is a very weighty tome written by Dave Hodges of the Church of Ambrosia. It's called "The Book of Ambrosia." It's not released yet, but Dave was kind enough to give me a copy at the conference and asked me to give him some notes. (Note to self, give Dave some notes!) So far, I can tell you that it's really comprehensive and covers preparation, integration, and the values and tenets of his psychedelic church. So there's your reading list. Maybe we'll start to discuss some of these in our membership group, and I'll try to get each of these people to come and share with you all on a zoom at some point. Happy reading! Conscious PartyThis is the term I use when I try to explain to people that healing and growth can happen at a festival or a dance party. Bright Eyes - FirewallThis is weird as hell. Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. Sometimes I need to unplug my integration. Sometimes, my experiences have been ultra wild, and I’m left scratching my head or shaking in my boots. When that happens, it’s my instinct to overcomplicate things and get all up in my head about it. But that doesn’t help. I need to get out of my head, not go deeper into the confusion. You can’t solve a problem with the same consciousness that created it.These situations ask for simplicity....
Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. There is nothing wrong with you. Try that on for size. A client told me that every time he shared one of his challenges with his old therapist, the therapist would explain it was proof of deep-seated problems. Shame, attachment issues, or some other sort of compulsivity or obsessional behavior. Everything about our friend was broken, or a problem to be solved. After a time, this approach made him more miserable, and he left the...
Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. The psychotic drowns in the same waters in which the mystic swims with delight. This is a quote from Joseph Campbell. A classic. It gives us something to shoot for, or rather, swim for. It helps us realize that the water isn't the issue; it's what we do with it. Not only are we invited to swim, we're encouraged to do it with gusto. Enjoy it, it's the perfect temperature. Funny thing is, though, none of us were born instinctively knowing...
