Psychedelic Integration, Unplugged and Acoustic - Red Things on Tuesday

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday.

Sometimes I need to unplug my integration.

Sometimes, my experiences have been ultra wild, and I’m left scratching my head or shaking in my boots. When that happens, it’s my instinct to overcomplicate things and get all up in my head about it. But that doesn’t help. I need to get out of my head, not go deeper into the confusion.

You can’t solve a problem with the same consciousness that created it.

These situations ask for simplicity. Groundedness. Quiet.

Here are some of my favorite things to do on the days after that just set my system right.

1️⃣ Throw a stick off a bridge into a river. So satisfying. Instant gratification. Primal. Rocks work too. Lakes work too. Throw as many as you like. If there are kids around, save some for them, because collective liberation.

2️⃣ unplugged walkabout. Ditch your phone. Jam twenty bucks in your pocket and maybe grab your journal. Go wander around. Explore your world without the mind control. Write some stuff down to see what you really think.

3️⃣ Go acoustic. This is a major theme. Anything slow, natural, and unplugged is good. Play musical instruments. Sing your confusion. Make art about it. Bake bread. Bike around.

4️⃣ Indulge the inner child. Mine often wants to read comic books. When’s the last time you dunked cookies in milk? Simpler times.

5️⃣ Listen to an entire freaking album. The way God intended. Bonus points for vinyl. Extra credit if the artist is dead. Nina Simone. Jeff Buckley. Ozzy Osbourne. Do album listening activities. Stare out a window. Drink tea. Smoke pot. Do yoga. Have sex. Draw.

6️⃣ Contemplate dawn and dusk, noon and midnight. Wake early to greet the day. Have a stroll as the streetlights turn on. Pray for clarity as the light shines brightest. Grieve in the graveyard in the middle of the night.

7️⃣ Anything that gets you dirty. Manual labor. Rock climbing. Pottery or painting. Foraging. Sandcastle building.

I could go on, but these are seven solid activities that ground me out and help me come home to myself. I can “process” any time, but I can’t forget to live soulfully. Creating a peaceful, integrated life is where it’s at.

Sunday, as we integrate our experience, we’ll explore how our stories can convey deep universal truths, and how taking our seat as a teacher can provide deep value to our students.

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. There is nothing wrong with you. Try that on for size. A client told me that every time he shared one of his challenges with his old therapist, the therapist would explain it was proof of deep-seated problems. Shame, attachment issues, or some other sort of compulsivity or obsessional behavior. Everything about our friend was broken, or a problem to be solved. After a time, this approach made him more miserable, and he left the...

Psychedelic Library

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. End of Summer Psychedelic Reading As the seasons change, and the kids get ready to go back to school, it's getting to be time to start cozying up with books. I don't want to brag (I want to brag), but I've got some pretty brilliant friends who have written some pretty great-looking books that have just come out. I'm looking forward to digging into their books, and it's also my pleasure to share them with you as well. In all...

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. The psychotic drowns in the same waters in which the mystic swims with delight. This is a quote from Joseph Campbell. A classic. It gives us something to shoot for, or rather, swim for. It helps us realize that the water isn't the issue; it's what we do with it. Not only are we invited to swim, we're encouraged to do it with gusto. Enjoy it, it's the perfect temperature. Funny thing is, though, none of us were born instinctively knowing...
