The Integration of Contemplation - Red Things on Tuesday

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday.

The Integration of Contemplation

This morning, I looked at my phone before meditating. It happens sometimes. And I'm glad I did. I saw a pretty profound short video. Honestly, it rocked me. Almost immediately, It reframed an issue from childhood. It was an event that seemed minor at the time. I didn't think it was a big deal, I didn't want to make it a big deal. Nearly 40 years later, it wants to be treated like a big deal. This is what wants healing today.

So I took it to the cushion, and sat with it, and felt the waves of it through my body, and contemplated the various repercussions, and the regret, and all the rest. I'm glad I have a practice, so it has some space to move, some room to breathe.

Thanks, algorithm. You really served it up today.

I'm sure I looked at more than one reel this morning. I'm sure there was a bunch of stuff in there about parenting, clips from science fiction movies, and visionary art reveals. But that one real was the gem. It was enough.

It was worth contemplating.

I think we do ourselves a disservice by not giving ourselves time to contemplate the best bits of information the world is constantly shoving down our throats. We need time to digest.

Traditionally, we wouldn't have gorged on wisdom. We don't read the Bhagavad Gita, the Lotus Sutra, or the Bible all in one sitting. We read a bit, and we contemplate. We dissect the verses, discussing them with our peers and our elders.

We move on once it's been fully absorbed. Or at least as fully as one could hope for in the moment.

The same is true for psychedelic integration.

People often ask, "How long do I have to integrate this before my next journey?"

My brother, you're an adult. You can do what you want. Nobody is stopping you, and nobody is judging you. You don't HAVE to do anything.

Integration is not a punishment.

Some people enjoy the process of sitting with the strangeness and the beauty of the experience, turning it over in their minds, gleaning whatever they can from it, but some don't, I suppose.

It's really nobody's business how anybody else travels through life, the universe, and everything.

But I've learned to love long stretches of unhurried time. I long for unproductive moments and time gazing at the wind through the trees.

How do we make space for ourselves, amidst the overwhelming variety of experience?

I love this Massive Attack song, and this cover is pretty great

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. Celebrities on Drugs I avoid current events, you know this. I once heard a teaching, "Don't mind the times, mind the eternities," and I really took that to heart. Good times and bad times come and go, and of course I try to do what I can on a local level, but I don't want to get to wrapped up in news that seems to be designed to manipulate my emotions, and I sure don't think it's useful for me to pass it on to you. A subset of the news...

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. The Heart Can Hold It All Over time, I can see that there is less that triggers me. And there are more things that happen that I can 'breathe through,' as they say. This means that I'll be living my life, happily going about my business, and then something will happen that used to upset me very much. And through some miracle of mindfulness, I'm able to notice my jaw clench and how a part of me is ready to get so offended. I see the one...

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. Purification, Tonification, and the Body We just set up the rebounder again, and I couldn't be happier. I love bouncing on this funny little trampoline, and it's deceptively challenging. I put on my rebounder playlist, and I rarely make it to the end. I feel good and flushed and open afterward, and then I'm sore later in the day. Especially on days when it's been a while since I've used it, which is today! While it's tonifying and...
