There is nothing wrong with you. Try that on for size - Red Things on Tuesday

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday.

There is nothing wrong with you. Try that on for size.

A client told me that every time he shared one of his challenges with his old therapist, the therapist would explain it was proof of deep-seated problems. Shame, attachment issues, or some other sort of compulsivity or obsessional behavior. Everything about our friend was broken, or a problem to be solved. After a time, this approach made him more miserable, and he left the therapist.

There are so many things that I don't know, but this just doesn't seem like a fun way to work with people.

Many of you have eaten too much acid to view people as nothing more than a collection of problems. It's pretty obvious that they (we) are beings of light and consciousness, and that they just have some stuff getting in their way.

I think this is why more people are choosing coaches.

The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as "Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process to maximize their personal and professional potential by unlocking their internal resources and creativity."

Coaches aren't looking for illness or brokenness. They are looking for potential, resourcefulness, and creativity.

There is nothing wrong with you, except sometimes you get in your own way.

You might not believe that at first, and that's ok.

What happens when we take a thought and try it on for a while?

Have you ever tried on a piece of clothing and walked around in it to see how it feels?

Have you ever bought a piece of clothing and it sat in your closet for a while, you weren't quite ready for it? Then one day, it was exactly the thing.

It's like that with thoughts, too.

Everyone is all about the IFS, and nobody is into metaprogramming. And often they take the IFS too far, listening to every voice in their head, no matter how cruel or insane, as if it was gospel. But few willing to assert their will, demanding, "I will think thoughts that are positive and good." They refuse to build the habit of reaching towards positive thoughts . They claim it feels fake, contrived. They forget that the negativity itself is a contrivance, a boldfaced lie, just because it has seniority.

It's time to stand up to the bully. Tell it that no longer can it steal the lunch money of our joy and self esteem.

It's time to clean out the closet and throw away the ill fitting khakis of shame and self criticism.

It's time to wear the dress ourselves in the finery of a mind attuned to its own goodness.

Psychedelics reopen the social reward learning critical period

Here is a new-to-me article which researches social reward learning in the critical period after psychedelic use. This is pretty cool for those of us that work in integration. It shows that there is a potential for folks to reopen windows of social learning, relationship building and community connection. We see that integration isn’t just personal reflection but also a chance to reshape how we connect. We can, as integrationists, understand that it's possible to encourage post journey practice that creates a fertile ground for healthy relationships, and new interpersonal patterns that will lead to the type of community connection that all of us in the field know is possible.

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. Sometimes I need to unplug my integration. Sometimes, my experiences have been ultra wild, and I’m left scratching my head or shaking in my boots. When that happens, it’s my instinct to overcomplicate things and get all up in my head about it. But that doesn’t help. I need to get out of my head, not go deeper into the confusion. You can’t solve a problem with the same consciousness that created it.These situations ask for simplicity....

Psychedelic Library

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. End of Summer Psychedelic Reading As the seasons change, and the kids get ready to go back to school, it's getting to be time to start cozying up with books. I don't want to brag (I want to brag), but I've got some pretty brilliant friends who have written some pretty great-looking books that have just come out. I'm looking forward to digging into their books, and it's also my pleasure to share them with you as well. In all...

Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on Tuesday. The psychotic drowns in the same waters in which the mystic swims with delight. This is a quote from Joseph Campbell. A classic. It gives us something to shoot for, or rather, swim for. It helps us realize that the water isn't the issue; it's what we do with it. Not only are we invited to swim, we're encouraged to do it with gusto. Enjoy it, it's the perfect temperature. Funny thing is, though, none of us were born instinctively knowing...
