After months of online calls, it was so very special to finally be in a shared space with everyone, to sit with everyone. Over the weekend, we experienced a full schedule of space-holding activities. They were introduced to the deeply relaxing and tonifying practice of yoga nidra by Brenna Geehan, giving them an opportunity to be aware of their awareness. We had a full-day practicum of Holotropic Breathwork, led by my old friend, Angel Cassidy. The students were able to sit for each other, experiencing expanded states using a method that requires no medicine. It was a powerful time for so many of them, and they all showed up admirably well it was a beautiful sight to behold. We also had a wonderful discussion on ceremony design and sacred objects led by our own Robin Alexandra. Also, over the course of the retreat, I shared a variety of methods of showing up for ourselves and others. It included more subtle pranayama and movement practices, resonant field work, intention setting, meditation practices, and considerate discussions about the ethical use of touch as an intervention. As we flowed through the various practices, we followed one consistent thread. We practiced cultivating presence in order to show up for our clients' healing, transformation, and growth. We worked to bring forth our inner intentionality in service to our clients so they could deepen in insight and well-being. We sat in the knowledge that the inner work is never done, and the more we work on ourselves, the more we can be of service to the whole. There were tears of gratitude that came with the realization of how lucky we are to walk this path, and tears of compassion with the recognition that there is so much suffering in the world. I hope I'm not laying it on too thick, but it was a splendid time. We covered some of my favorite parts of this work. I love to meditate with people, and find ways to intentionally explore the mind. We just don't spend enough time focused on our mindset. We don't always realize that we can do inner work in a practical and useful way in each present moment. We might think that we're a victim to our mind, at the mercy of our emotions, and that doesn't have to be true. Our situation is workable. We might not be able to do much at first, but we can always do something. And the more we do it, the more we can do. This is why I created the Meditation for the Journey class. To offer people, and psychonauts in particular, tools and frameworks for working with the mind. This class is actually the precursor to the Coaching training program, and through it, I've been able to offer guidance to hundreds of folks, professional practitioners, and regular explorers alike. I know that a year-long program is quite a lot to commit to, so this six-week class is much more accessible. In this class, you learn more than just a few guided meditations. Sure, I'll offer you some of those, but it's more than that. We actually learn how the mind works. It's a dive into the psychology and structure of meditation. You'll learn how and why meditation even helps. What this means for you is you'll have the ability to create unique meditation practices for yourself and others that actually work! What this really means, is that you'll have a better working knowledge of the mind, so that you can really affect change and create wellness in and out of medicine space. This class starts on Monday, and there are still spots available. It runs for 6 weeks, and each class is two hours. There are also optional 30 minute group meditation practices, and a cool online platform (not facebook) for community building. The class comes with a huge resource library. I just recorded a 60 'yin yoga through the chakras' class, and you'll get a copy of that too. You'll also be invited to a free month of the Golden Road Collective, for an extended community collaboration. And if you decide you do want to move forward with coaching training, you'll get a discount. Mendocino Coffee MugsMany years ago, Somya and I had a romantic getaway to Mendocino. We bought a great mug at one of the shops. For the holidays, She hunted down the artist, Mark Cortright of Liscom Hill Pottery and bought me a couple more! Awesome! Check him out. Legion by Brandon SandersonMy brother recommended a fun piece of fiction, which I haven't read enough. It's called Legion. This story is about a detective who has a collection of genius 'alters' - a collection of hallucinatory friends with very special skills that help him solve crimes. For people like us, who can relate to the experience of speaking with wise disembodied entities, it's a hoot. Link here. Once we both finish it, I'm going to suggest that we both read Fadiman's Symphony of Selves. It delves into research about how to harmonize and access the different aspects of ourselves. It's about time I had a book club with my brother. 2025! You Can Feel GoodThis is my favorite reaction video ever. This guy is so sweet. Watch till the end, as they say. And here are some of our upcoming classes...
