Holding the Psychedelic ContainerI met with our local psychedelic society over the weekend, and we discussed the importance of a good container. We discussed the finer points of what makes a container a container, namely:
We delved into some of the more ancillary aspects of containers, such as how to prepare and how to integrate. The importance of actually talking about these topics before a ceremony, to make sure everyone is on the same page, and of debriefing afterwards, to reflect on how it went and what could be better. We discussed abstract ideas, like our inner energetic containers, and how they work together to co-create the space we share. There was talk about how sometimes things go sideways, and how we need to work together with vulnerability and honesty to repair ruptures. We discussed interventions and how the most subtle and minimally invasive techniques are often the best. It was rich and went into unexpected directions. I think it's good practice to talk about these things. It's good to talk about them on a community level, and it's necessary to talk about them with people you plan on going into non-ordinary states with. Do you have a journey coming up? I bet if you talked to your fellow travellers about each of the above bullet points, you'd gain a clarity and connection that you didn't have before. You might come to an intimacy and understanding you hadn't considered. Just riff on them, or journal on the questions. Allow yourself to become always more intentional about your growth and transformation. Of course, these are topics that we cover in our Coaching Training Program, starting in September. If you're interested in becoming a Psychedelic Integration Coach, you can shoot me an email or come to the training session this friday. Rick Griffin, poster artist, goes surfing The Golden Road - Mentorship, Peer Support, Supervision, and Skill Building for Serious Psychonauts and Healing ProfessionalsThe Golden Road has evolved into a wonderful group of practitioners. We meet every Thursday at noon eastern, and there are monthly masterclasses as well. There is also a large archive (over 200 hours) of psychedelic education and past talks. The wonderful people who show up share not only their journeys, but the journeys of those they steward. It's become a place of learning, support, accountability, and peer review. Folks are learning some things from me, but they are also learning from each other. We all face unique challenges as we work in this space, and it's great to have a place where we can bring them for non-judgmental feedback and reflection. You're invited. You're the common denominator of all your problems One of the most beautiful parts of this work is realizing how our beliefs limit our reality. There are some who love to intone the sacred adage, "your beliefs create your reality," but I think this perhaps misses the mark. It's only half the story. It's more likely that our beliefs limit our reality. This explains why there are scads of new agers staring into mirrors, desperately chanting "I am abundant" while noting changes. Opportunity...
Nibble the Product You may have seen the video of the McDonald's CEO pretending to eat his company's new burger. He appeared stiff, alien, and uncomfortable. I thought it was his first day on the job, maybe his first day on the planet. He referred to it as 'Product' before managing the tiniest nibble, obviously disgusted. A bunch of other burger joints made parodys, showing that they made burgers that could actually be enjoyed. I wanted to make my own, where I gobbled down some mushrooms or...
Deepak Chupacabra A long time ago, at a coffee shop far, far away, I had a friend who liked to make stickers. He would cut and paste images by hand, then take them to the copy shop to make zine style black and white stickers. They got slapped on lamp posts or carefully hidden in the corner of a store window. You’d see them on the back of street signs. The stickers were funny, subversive takes on popular culture. They were smart, absurdist critiques that left a lot open to interpretation. One...
